What Happens When You Plant a Zinnia Patch?

Doug, in the very first zinnia patch we ever planted, taking it all in. He once said, 'This might be the best thing I've ever done.' We believe him.

We didn’t know for sure what would come of it.

Just two people with a vision, a piece of land, and a packet (or twelve) of seeds.

We had already moved across the country, hit pause on life as we knew it, and poured ourselves into this old stone house on the Bluff. But the zinnia patch? That was the first time we slowed down enough to simply… plant beauty for beauty’s sake.

And Doug—who’s done a million amazing things in his life—stood out there one afternoon and said, “This might be the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Zinnias don’t ask for much. A little sun. A little water. A little faith.

But what they is give back is everything.

They’re cheerful and scrappy, just like we hope to be. They bloom in wild colors. They invite the bees, the butterflies, and (apparently) the best kind of humans to stop and stay awhile. We didn’t know it then, but those flowers were the beginning of something much bigger.

Today, that very first patch has grown into Summer Serenades.

Five nights. Music drifting through the blooms. Good food, good company, and slow summer magic that feels like a dream—but it’s real. It’s ours. And now, we get to share it.

We’ve got plenty of projects under our belts, but that field of flowers will always hold a special place in our hearts. Maybe because it was simple. Maybe because it was colorful. Maybe because it bloomed just when we needed it to.

So if you're ever wondering what happens when you plant a zinnia patch…

Well—this.

And we hope you’ll come see it for yourself.
