It started with a dream… and it continues with a song.

We are thrilled to open our Summer Serenades series with Deion Wykowski, a soulful singer-songwriter whose music has captured hearts across Iowa. If his name sounds familiar, it might be because he was featured in Iowa Public Radio’s 2019 coverage of NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest, where he stood out among 36 Iowa artists.

Originally from Keokuk, Deion has become a well-loved performer in Southeast Iowa and beyond. His music is honest, reflective, and layered with emotion—just the kind of presence we wanted to launch our first evening under the stars.

On Saturday, June 28, Deion will take the stage in our timber-shaded zinnia field at 1884 On The Bluff, blending live acoustic music with golden hour breezes and the soft rustle of flowers. It’s a setting that feels like a page from a storybook—and Deion’s music will be the heartbeat of the night.

A little more about Deion: In 2019, Iowa Public Radio recognized his talent during their coverage of NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Deion’s style draws from folk, soul, and indie influences. He has a gift for drawing listeners in and holding them there—exactly what a summer serenade calls for.

A little more about Deion:

In 2019, Iowa Public Radio featured Deion—performing under the name Young Old Soul—in their coverage of NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest. He was one of 36 Iowa artists recognized, and his performance stood out with a raw, soulful presence that resonated far beyond the contest.
